LaZarre Land in October Harvest 2017

Dear Friends,

I want to acknowledge the horrendous fires that are taking place with our brethren up North in Napa, Sonoma counties etc. At this time, we are receiving phone calls from our friends trying to wrap their heads around or make sense of where they are with the state of their environment now.

This is truly profound. Winemaking and wine life is at the heart and core of where Adam and I live. Our hearts and hope go out to every single person affected by the fires- as well as the other areas of devastation wracked upon us with natural disasters as well as other human inflicted ones.

We live about 3 hours south of Napa, so are safe from the current fires. But we know this catastrophe affects us all. We drive through our beautiful state of California on a daily basis. Much is dry and at risk. Just 3 weeks ago, I witnessed a small brush fire turn into a 500+ acre burn from my back patio. Our Paso Robles airport is not commercial and therefore supports and holds the CalFire airplanes. We were fortunate to have the fire out within 30 minutes due to our proximity to airport. Planes were dousing retardant within a very short time.

We know this fire is an extraordinary event within the world we live in. This has impacted many of our colleagues and loved ones. In turn, this will affect the whole landscape of the California wine industry. Half way through the harvest of 2017- the fire will affect not only the grapes still on the vines with smoke taint, but the grapes that have just been brought into the winery the past few weeks. Without power, maintaining any cold fermentation process will be quite difficult, if not outright impossible. The cost of making wine in every region in California will most likely go up due to various reasons, from lack of grapes to winery space to rebuilding efforts, etc.

I want to share my own personal thoughts without seeming indifferent or regardless. This is a situation that is surmountable.  The loss of life is still being assessed, but the rebuilding of homes, communities and vineyards is certain. We here in the LaZarre family will make certain we provide any comfort we can to assist in those efforts.

The following newsletter was scheduled to go out today and will. Wine is the soul of so much we do, and we continue today in support of what we believe in, of our friends in the industry and of all that is good.

Pinot Noir goes wonderfully with the cool crisp air and warm holiday love.
In the LaZarre home, we drink Pinot Noir with our turkey and prime rib to boot.
Luscious and elegant, just like we like to live.
(also pairs with heavy cream and heavy metal!)
